A MODULAR BENCH

This modular bench opens from a trunk.

This project started as a fibers assignment. In the desire to cross all disciplines, I decided to turn my dye samples into upholstry. The stips of material are nailed onto wooden blocks that attach to the trunk and stretch the material to form a sitable surface. The back of the seat functions the same.

When one is finished sitting, the wooden parts detach from the trunk and fold up inside with additional space for storage.

The trunk is an old army trunk, it came from a reuse/resale warehouse in Ann Arbor, MI.

The bench sits 20 inches high.
