SITOOTERIE

This word is said to be a Scots colloquial term. It means a place to sit out in, from sit plus oot (a Scots pronunciation of out) plus the noun ending –erie of French origin that’s familiar from words like menagerie and rotisserie.

This Sitooterie is a site specific designed seating place for 2. In conjunction with a Graduate Architecture class, we designed for trasparency, lightness in appearance, and lightness in weight. The linear shapes, posotive and negative spaces, and red roof contrast with the surrounding nature yet allow visible windows of different transparency.

Materials: aluminum tubing (structure), thin polycarbonate plastic (walls and seat), and fiberglass (roof), concrete (foundation for poles).
